High Contrast Cinema presents
Double Indemnity
Friday 15th September, 8pm
High Contrast Cinema is a new film society launching in Autumn 2023 which will provide local audiences with the opportunity to see some of the very best of classic cinema returned to its home on the big screen. Using Film Noir as a starting point, the journey will begin with Billy Wilder’s 1944 adaptation of James M. Cain’s Double Indemnity, a sharply cynical tale of obsession, deception and murder starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. From there, over the coming months, expect to venture further into shadowy worlds of crime, passion, duplicity through a continued exploration of Film Noir and beyond. Rated PG for 'mild violence'. Special Earlybird ticket price available until 15th August!
Jo Burt and The Lazy Farquhars
Saturday 16th September, 7.30pm
Heritage artist Jo Burt is an English songwriter, storyteller, singer and guitar player possibly best known for his incredible history working with musical legends such as Freddie Mercury, The Troggs and even Black Sabbath over the past 40 years.
Jo’s songwriting style is based on his background of guitar-orientated rock, with a southern-style influence and a very English ‘Beatles-esque’ twist. To use his own terms – ‘Anglicana’ and ‘psycho-country’. The show also includes his own versions of some of the biggest hits from the artists that shaped his career.
We’re thrilled to have Jo Burt and the Lazy Farquhars at the Allendale.

Bournemouth Orchid Society Show and Trade Fair
Saturday 30th September, 12pm - 4pm
Bournemouth Orchid Society are delighted to be staging our family inclusive Autumn Show that is designed to provide a unique and engaging experience for the whole family. Be you novices, or truly experienced growers of plants, our talented members will be staging many differing orchids, providing colour, intrigue and scent, all supplemented by advice in abundance. For those wishing to purchase different orchids than those generally offered by local traders, this is the place. There will be a massive variety on offer.
For those interested in the environment, mindful that this a school topic, we are staging a family interactive learning zone where you can see into the macro as well as the massive regarding orchids. There will be free family inclusive crafts and quizzes etc. plus access to microscopes, all backed up by a wealth of knowledge regarding all things orchid.
